Dev Anand was the debonair hero who continues to be idolised as a fashion symbol. Every time he appeared on screen, his true matinee idol good looks, dapper demeanour, and charming screen presence had his fans swooning. But he wasn’t only a good-looking celebrity but also an incredibly talented actor. He shared the same dedication to his profession as Dilip Kumar or Raj Kapoor, with whom he shared decades of dominance on the silver screen. Often considered one of the greatest leading men in Hindi romantic films, Dev Anand continues to remain associated with the genre even half a century since the release of films that bestowed this image. It is perhaps unimaginable to think of Dev sahab in any other genre, although some of his characters in films such as Baazi (1951), Jaal (1952), CID (1956), Kala Pani (1958), Kala Bazaar (1960) and Bombai Ka Babu (1960) had more shades of drama than romance. Surprising, as it may seem today, Dev Anand nearly played the lead in a film that is universally acknowledged as the one that not only initiated the action phase of Hindi cinema in the 1970s but also gave birth to the Angry Young Man – Zanjeer (1973).
An Indian printer who worked closely with my husband for many years and became a family friend once phoned when he found out Dev Anand was in London to launch his autobiography. Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh is currently shooting extensively for Sujit Kumar Singh’s ‘Crack Fighter’. The film is being produced by Upendra Singh under his home production banner Upendra Films Creations, who has given back-to-back blockbusters in recent times.
Fas Jaogi Jaan, a song from Bhojpuri film Crack Fighter, is breaking the internet. Bhojpuri cinema star Pawan Singh and Priyanka Singh have sung the song which features Khesari Lal Yadav and Akshara Singh. Lyrics of the song have been penned by Sumit Singh Chandravanshi and music composed by Chhote Baba.
Director Mehul Kumar, who worked with Amitabh Bachchan on the film Mrityudaata in 1997, recalled how the superstar himself approached him for work at a time when his career was going through a difficult phase.
