Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan’s ex-wife Reham Khan has tied the knot with a US-based Pakistani actor and satirist Mirza Bilal.

The 49-year-old British-Pakistani journalist, who was married to Khan between 2014 and 2015, announced on Twitter her marriage to Bilal in a simple Nikah ceremony in the US city of Seattle.

These are non-issues, and the only thing one could do: tell them to chill. But then there are other issues, the real ones, which need sitting down quietly, much introspection, and a great deal of agonising, and action. Of relationships falling to pieces, of marriages disintegrating, of domestic abuse, of husbands’ infidelity, of the agony of a divorce, of surviving alone. Of the increasing cost of living, of barely managing. Of facing sexual abuse at home, of getting raped, of near-death brutalisation of acid-throwing, of honour killing. Of facing harassment at workplace; of being stared at on a bus to work; of giving birth after four children; of secret, painful abortions; of being beaten up verbally and physically. Of quitting school, of having fewer work opportunities, of having limited options of self-employment, of being paid less than the male counterparts, of having to quit careers for the sake of marriage. Of living bleak lives with no choices at all.

A day after the manuscript of Reham’s book was leaked online, many PTI leaders took to Twitter to accuse her of being part of an agenda to malign Imran Khan’s character and reputation ahead of the upcoming general elections. The book is said to revolve around Reham’s marriage to Khan.

Salman Ahmad, one of Pakistan’s most famous musicians and a PTI member, alleged that Reham had taken £100,000 million from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to malign her former husband.
